the (dairy) queen of broken hearts....

...as i've driven around beijing in buses and taxis i've seen several signs for dairy queen. of course i've found this strange since i thought dairy queens only existed in towns in rural texas with a population less than 5,000. there is a dairy queen on my bus route to the hospital though it really isn't very near to the hospital at all. yesterday, desiring for my hunger to be busted, (d.q. reference) i decided to make the trek on foot because it was really nice weather outside. the whole morning i had been psyching myself up for the real hamburger that i would get from the D.Q. (since mcdonalds just doesn't really do it for me). side note: When Curtis was in town we walked by one and he noted how they always seemed to be together with this japanese noodle bar called 'yokinasha' or something. i didn't think anything of it at the time. anyways, so i get to the place and walk in, there are signs everywhere for blizzards and a small counter to the left that seems to have all of the dessert stuff. directly in front of me is the counter for the noodle bar, so i keep walking thinking the d.q. food counter will be around the corner. (integral to the story is my desire to eat anything but noodles or rice) reaching the back of the store my heart drops...after a few moments of dizzyness and disillusionment (does that word work there?) i realize the bleak reality, the dairy queens in china are dessert only. hmmm, 'noodles it is!' i say as i light hearted frustration comes over me. so i had a noodle bowl. anyways, i still got my blizzard for dessert so i won't act like it was a complete failure. and just for the record, the weather here has been amazing the last two days; i am really going to enjoy the spring i think, (i qualify a spring day as: any day in which normal ammounts of time outside does not result in numbness of the extremities) so goodbye for now dear reader, and remember, in china do not expect real food from a dairy queen (or a dilly bar...i didn't see those either)..
