random acts of (un)kindness...

I got to leave the hospital a little early today, and had had a really good day already so i was feeling pretty good. as i was walking to the bus stop i happened upon a man riding a bike..this was not just any bike, it was more like a giant tricycle. these are really common in china and the back part has a little flat bed area to carry stuff (the bicycle equivalent of a truck)... so this guy has his trike stacked about (seriously) 8 or 9 feet high with fruit in boxes {i really wished that i had my camera, try for a mental picture, you will thank yourself when you begin laughing} so he's standing up, petaling as hard as he could, and obviously not moving too fast since i was about to overtake him on foot. since i was walking down this street anyways, i says to myself, why don't you help this chap out a bit; so, without him noticing me i fall in behind the giant stack of boxes and start to push from the back. we immediately pick up speed and (though i can't see him b/c of the boxes) i hope that he was able to sit down and rest a bit. as we got to the next intersection he slowed down, and i walked on, he was none the wiser. so you may say, what is the value of telling us this self-righteous josh? well, wait a tick...i walk on, feeing pretty good about my contribution to chinese society, and continuing what had been a really good day of abiding in the lord, when this chinese dude snot-rockets on the ground right in front of me. i have about 1 second to converse with myself before i pass him, but i'm pretty sure the conversation focused around my burning anger and desire to slap him as hard as i could and ask why in the world chinese people think it is so cool to hawk huge lugies and snot rockets all over the place; my next though was whether i could do this without guilt because it would balance out with me helping the triker so that i would be even for the day. oh well, no one is perfect..i'm working on that love your neighbor thing, but it's tough some times...
