NYC day # 3...
you know things are good when they rhyme...allow me to tell you a little about day three...after a long day that included me making friends with a dude named Aaron while sitting on the ground outside a women's dressing room in a department store (which had a line like 20 people long just to get in...no guy would ever wait in such a line.) We ended up walking around a lively part of town around 10pm looking for a place to get desert:
*After getting turned away at one place that was full they told us to try to restaurant across the street, because they had good Tiramisu. We went over and they said they too were full, but after speaking to each other in Italian, and Melanie slipping the guy a wink and a smile, they told us that we could sit downstairs in their private party room, since we just wanted to have dessert; there was a large private party of Italians coming, but not for about an hour.
*We got down there and had the whole place to ourselves, we ordered the Tiramisu, and then in a prophetic attempt to create fun Elaine (pictured) decided to pray over our Carafe of water to turn it into wine. There was no immediate color change or anything, but these things often take time.
* Our waitress was fresh from Italy, and really fun and lively as most Italians, pope's not included, generally are. She kept talking to us about the people that were coming, so we asked if it was ok for us to just stick around, since we really couldn't think of anything better...It couldn't have been more perfect...after a few minutes, tall men with wavy hair and olive skin began piling in, shouting various things in Italian. We kinda kept our seats and enjoyed the show. Before long the music started and the dancing wasn't far behind. I can't recall them ever really sitting down to dinner, though I think a meal would come out every so often and some lucky person would dismount the table they were dancing on and sit down to eat. The girls (it was 3 of them and me) started dancing and never sat down. They had their eye (Melanie excluded) on one of the Italian guys...and let's just say he had his eye on them. The dancing went late into the night, and I witnessed all kinds of dancing, though most of it was on chairs or tables. And a man almost my grandparents age tearing it up with the young girls using his time-tested Italian hip shimmy. As for me I alternated between dancing, taking pictures of the sheer randomness around me, and planning how I could grab the girls and escape when the mob hit-men busted in with their Tommy guns. In summary, well there is no summary; I guess it is that you should always expect a bizarre good time when you mix Melanie + Elaine + Beth + Italians + NYC.
