a couple of weeks ago (sorry for the posting lag) i went to visit the kindergarten class taught by the nice lady who lent me her guitar while i am here, i thought it was the least i could do to repay her; anyways, it was a blast, and i realized more than ever that i really enjoy being a clown, which offers alternative work if medicine doesn't pan out. the kids were great, from the moment i walked in they started going crazy and i spent the first five minutes just making weird facial expressions at them. i had wanted to teach them how to play duck-duck-goose, but knew that if that was going to happen i would first have to explain it to my 25 year old chinese friend who was with me so that he could explain in chinese. expecting the result, i was no too disappointed when after about 10 minutes he declared the game to hard for him to understand and said that the children could never get it if he couldn't..(at this point he said "you don't understand, they are really small...like dolls") so we ended up going over some words in english pertaining to fruits and animals, i would hold up the fruit/animal and say the word and then they would repeat it...then there was a relatively unsuccessful attempt to teach them "old macdonald", i think the problem arose because, there are different animal sounds in different cultures (their cows and pigs sound totally different apparently, who knew?) we ended up in the play room singing some songs off of a dvd and then going over some more words on flashcards that they were learning in english, it was a blast. i was really expecting to see commy propaganda all over the walls and stuff, but surprisingly it looked like a really normal kindergarten.
